COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. is again giving away free trees as part of an effort to promote improvement of the shoreline on Lake Murray.
On Friday and Saturday, free seedlings are available to lake residents at the SCE&G Environmental Building on the north side of the Lake Murray Dam.
SCE&G says the collaborative effort is designed to improve the aesthetics of the lake's shoreline, help control erosion and protect water quality. This is the 16th year of the giveaway.
The seedlings are being distributed in bundles of 10 and 15 trees and come with planting instructions. Trees available this year include cypress bald, river birch, button bushes and Southern wax myrtles.
