BATON ROUGE –For the 14th straight year, LSU has finished ranked in the top 10nationally in home football attendance with an average of 91,418 fans acontest, the NCAA announced on Thursday.
LSU's averageof 91,418 fans at home puts the Tigers at No. 8 in the nation. Michigan led thecountry with an average of 111,592. LSU finished fourth in the SEC behindAlabama (101,505), Tennessee (95,584) and Georgia (92,746) – all three of whichcurrently have larger stadiums than LSU.
Twelve of the14 schools in the SEC ranked in the Top 30 in attendance in 2013 withMississippi State and Vanderbilt being the two exceptions.
LSU hasranked in the top 10 in attendance each year dating back to 2000 when theTigers were No. 5 nationally with an average of 87,815. LSU has averaged over90,000 fans in Tiger Stadium for the past 13 years, which includes aschool-record of 92,868 during the 13-0 regular season in 2011.
The highestLSU has ever ranked nationally in attendance came in 1963 when the Tigersranked No. 2 with an average or 66,141 fans a game.
LSU will openthe newly-expanded Tiger Stadium and its 10th year under Les Mileson Saturday, Sept. 6 when the Tigers host Sam Houston State in the home openerfor 2014.
