Emergency crews shut down traffic in downtown Columbia for what ended up being a sleeping bag, according to the Columbia Police Department.

CPD officials blocked off a portion of Lady Street near Sumter Street to investigate what was initially referred to as a suspicious package.

Columbia Fire and the bomb squad were also at the scene.

After several minutes, police tweeted out a photo of the sleeping bag on their official Twitter account.

"No threat @ Sumter & Lady st," said the tweet. "Canvas bag left near trash can contained a sleeping bag."

After the package was determined to not be a threat, police quickly reopened Lady Street without incident.
