Two men were arrested during a traffic stop near Cordova Saturday night after Orangeburg County deputies discovered marijuana and a scale hidden under a vehicle's hood.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says officers pulled a white Chevy over after observing it swerving along Terrace Road.

As the officers approached the vehicle, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana, according to the sheriff.

"The passenger, Edward Ervin Hamilton, told the officers he had marijuana in his pockets," said Ravenell. "The driver, Frederick Akeem Shuler, told officers he did not have any narcotics.

"K9 Officer Gomo was deployed and alerted on the driver's side of the vehicle's hood," said Ravenell. "Officers located a plastic container with marijuana inside and a plastic scale under the vehicle's hood."

Both were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute.

"We are working diligently to make this county safer and running drug dealers out of town is one way we can do that," concluded Ravenell.
