Girl, 7, killed in accident near Shaw AFB

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A 7-year-old was killed in an accident near Shaw Air Force Base Monday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened on US 378 near Eagle Road around 7:10 a.m.

Troopers say three people were traveling in a 1995 Saturn that collided with a 2006 Mazda.

The driver of the Saturn and an 8-year-old passenger were hospitalized as a result of the collision. Their conditions were not immediately available.

A 7-year-old had to be extricated from the Saturn. She died at the scene.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the Mazda, was not injured.

All four people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.

Investigators did say how the collision occurred.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
