MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Fighting in the trenches on the Seahawks offensive line one can find a familiar face, former Mooresville High School linebacker and N.C. State alumni J.R. Sweezy. After a dominant victory over the Denver Broncos Sunday, the homegrown hero can now call himself a Super Bowl champion.

Those who live in Mooresville are in awe after realizing a player they watched since Pee Wee football is now receiving a Super Bowl ring.

"I'm always excited about the Super Bowl," said Amy Wilson, who lives in Mooresville. "But it's always great when you got somebody in there that you know."

Wilson and a good crowd filled up the Breeze In Station in Mooresville Sunday night.

"It is a sea of blue and green in here," said co-owner Lori Broome. "We're in Seahawks territory today."

Especially because one of their own is on the field.

"It's huge for our town," said Broome. "J.R. is the first kid from our town to make it to the NFL, much less the super bowl."

Sweezy played linebacker for Mooresville High before heading off to N.C. State. Now he is an anchor on the Seahawks offensive line.

"You go to the TV and you search for that jersey," said Wilson, who has watched Sweezy since his days playing on the Junior High squad. "You always look for J.R."

The bruising lineman wears number 64 for the Seahawks and continued bringing together an entire town with his play in the Super Bowl.

"It gave something to glue the town together and be proud of and experience," said Wilson about Sweezy's play. "Each one of those boys are a hometown boy somewhere and they're living their dream and that's what J.R. is doing and that's what his family is doing and that's phenomenal."

Sweezy came off the bench his rookie season in Seattle. This year, he started 15 games en route to Sunday's Super Bowl victory.
