NEESES, SC (WIS) -

Authorities in Orangeburg County say a Neeses woman made up an elaborate story about being kidnapped and raped because she didn't want her boyfriend to know that she had been using drugs.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says 47-year-old Bonnie Jean Avery told officers that after she ran out of gas January 17 on Highway 400, two men approached her and offered assistance.

"Avery said she didn't want their help but they forced her into a white extended cab pickup truck," said Ravenell. "She was forced to ride around with the suspects for hours and they also sexually assaulted her. Avery continued by saying that she was able to get away from her kidnappers, hiding in the trees while waiting for them to leave."

She told officers that after she got back to her vehicle, a woman stopped to help her get gas. Once she got home, she called law enforcement.

After further investigation, Avery admitted to making the story up, the sheriff said. "She said that she didn't want her boyfriend to know that she had been abusing narcotics," said Ravenell.

She was charged with filing a false police report.
