COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Officials with the state Department of Transportation reported Thursday morning most roads have returned to normal, but some secondary roads remain covered with snow and ice.

Temperatures were expected to rise above freezing in most of the state Thursday afternoon. The higher temperatures will accelerate ice removal efforts.

Drivers are urged to take caution when traveling on secondary roads.

Crews in four of the seven engineering districts continue working on rotating 12-hour shifts, applying salt and other anti-icing/deicing materials.

Most engineering districts were expected to return to normal operations by Thursday afternoon.  Statewide, all interstate routes are open and in fair or better condition. The Ravenel Bridge in Charleston was still closed as of 9:30 a.m.

To date, crews have dropped more than 15,000 tons of salt, 5,000 tons of sand, 132,000 gallons of calcium chloride, and 813,000 gallons of salt brine.
