MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

After a multi-day closure due to icy conditions, The Ravenel Bridge is now open to vehicle traffic.

Officials say Ravenel Bridge is opened as of 3:10 p.m. The bridge was shut down late Tuesday around 8 p.m. due to ice build-up caused by the recent winter storm.

Citizens are still being asked to used extreme caution while driving across the bridge. Law enforcement will close the bridge once again if travel conditions become unsafe.

The pedestrian and bike path remains closed at this time.

SCDOT officials were hoping to get the bridge open by rush hour Thursday.

An SCDOT noon report states,"The primary concern continues to be opening the Ravenel Bridge in the Charleston and returning it to safe condition. We are hopeful the bridge will be open to traffic by rush hour today. Additional resources are currently assisting Charleston with their efforts."

The Don Holt Bridge on Interstate 526 is still open to traffic after being reopened at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, giving Mt. Pleasant residents a route out of town.

The Don Holt Bridge had been closed for more than 18 hours before reopening. The Ravenel Bridge had been closed for more than 35 hours.

Bacons Bridge Road was closed Thursday morning due to icy conditions, but has since been reopened.

Officials say everything else is open, including the Isle of Palms Connector, Ashley River Bridge, James Island Connector, Limehouse Bridge, North Bridge, and the Wando Bridge.

Charleston County government officials are advising motorists to use extreme caution and drive safely across the bridge. Officials say the bridge will only remain open as long as conditions don't dictate otherwise.

The Winter Storm Warning for South Carolina was canceled by the National Weather Service later Wednesday morning.
