GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Tina Anderson and her dog Myrtle usually take the same route when they go for a walk in her Greer neighborhood.

"Come on, come on," she said as she gave a gentle tug to Myrtle's leash.

On Monday, just feet away from their footsteps, investigators with animal control said they found 24 dogs at a property on Caleb Drive in Greer.

"You hear them. You know they're there," Anderson said.

Now the kennels sit empty, and a condemned sign is posted on the door.

"In the summertime, you can smell it if you're walking by her house," she said.

Anderson said she's never had a problem with her neighbor and just considered her to be a dog lover.

"We didn't see that they were like hurt or anything or starving," Anderson said.

Investigators with animal control wrote three tickets for animal cruelty and took 17 dogs, but the owner is fighting to keep seven others.

"We really didn't know how many were there. So as long as they didn't bother us," she said.

Anderson said she's a dog lover and hopes the owner and the dogs are all OK.

"Maybe you know, they're getting the help they need," Anderson said.

A court date will be scheduled to determine what will happen with those seven other dogs.
