IRMO, SC (WIS) -

The Dutch Fork wrestling program has been cleared to compete after the program was suspended due to students contracting rashes, a district spokesman told WIS.

"The Dutch Fork wrestling program has been cleared to resume competition," said Mark Bounds, Chief Information Officer at Lexington-Richland School District 5. "We have followed a very rigorous process to ensure the safety of our students and to protect any possibility of infection of other wrestlers."

Bounds said as required by National Federation of High School Sport, each wrestler who had any symptom was screened and cleared by a doctor.

"We have not had any new symptoms appear on any wrestler since Jan. 11," Bounds said. "Our decision was made in close consultation with medical professionals and DHEC."

Bounds said coaches and the school district will continue to monitor wrestlers closely and address any future issues immediately.
