(WMC-TV) - The suspect accused of attacking a Greyhound bus driver was also accused of beating a Mid-South woman. The bus attack caused a crash that injured more than 20 people in Arizona Thursday morning.

Maquel Morris was acquitted on charges of beating an elderly woman in Mississippi a few years ago.

"If justice had been served four years ago, this wouldn't have happened," said the daughter of the victim, Kathy Bartosch.

In January of 2010, Morris and Dillon Williams were charged with brutally beating Bartosch's 90-year-old mother in Marshall County, Mississippi.

"Fractured bones in her face, she had two or three breaks in her jaw," said Kathy.

Williams plead guilty and went to prison for the crime. But when it came time for Morris' trial, Williams testimony did not convince the jury that there was enough evidence to convict Morris, who Bartosch claims is kin to Williams.

"He chose not to implicate his half brother in the crime and said that he was not there," said Kathy."I'm so sorry for all these people and wish that justice had been served four years ago, and these people would be still on their way to Dallas and be safe."

Now Morris will be back in court on more than 70 charges related to the bus crash.

It remains unclear why Morris reportedly attacked the bus driver. Marshall County detectives say they will help investigators in Arizona anyway they can.
