(CNN) - It's well into the new year, so how are you doing with those healthy eating resolutions?
It seems the food decisions Americans been making over the last few years are leaning towards healthier eating, at least when we eat in one specific place.
A new report by the USDA finds that eating habits have started to turn towards eating out less and at home more.
They looked at our eating habits over the last five years and found that although Americans still eat out the majority of the time, the trend is moving the right way.
Calories from food eaten outside of the home fell by 127 calories per day, which means since Americans were eating self-prepared food, calories declined nearly 5 percent.
And overall Americans are eating healthier too. On average, Americans of working age ate 118 calories less per day.
