The South Carolina Department of Transportation is advising motorists about a traffic pacing operation with South Carolina Electric and Gas Thursday.

The traffic pacing will require a temporary road closure for both directions on Interstate 26 in Lexington County, SCDOT officials said.

The closure is scheduled for 5:00 a.m. on Interstate 26, in both east and westbound directions near the I-26 Bridge near mile marker 116, which is about a mile south of the I-26 and I-77 interchange.

Crews will be removing an overhead power line that crosses Interstate 26.

"Traffic will be paced 20 mph not to exceed 15 minutes while the work is being completed and authorities will be leading the pacing operation," SCDOT officials said. "The interstate will be re-opened as soon as possible and traffic disruption will be kept to a minimum."

Officials want to remind drivers traveling through the construction zone to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times.

Real-time traffic conditions will be provided by SCDOT's Work Zone Intelligent Transportation (ITS) in the widening section to help motorists make travel decisions. Live traffic conditions will be posted on the message boards along the interstate and can also be viewed at
