Community coming together to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Each year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in Columbia brings people together for remembrance and commemoration.

This year, Columbia High School choral students will be playing a special role.

To say Jennifer Davis loves music is an understatement.

"Without music, what is life? Where does life lie," said Davis.

She's the director of choral activities at Columbia High School and expects a lot from her students.

"She goes above and beyond in what she does," said Kierra Harris, a member of the chorus.

The hard work is paying off. The chorus will perform at the City of Columbia's Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.

"It's a great opportunity to be able to share and give back to community by showcasing our talents," said Davis.

It's an honor for Davis and the students.

"It's for MLK Jr., he changed so much. It's just amazing," said Harris.

"People will feel happy about MLK Jr. and what he marched for, and what he preached for," added Stacia Lewis, a member of the chorus.

It's an opportunity the group will never forget.

"I'll take this with me for the rest of my life," said Harris.

The celebration is at 4 p.m. Monday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Community Center on Greene Street.

There will also be performances by Columbia City Ballet and Shelby Rae Shealy.
