Sumter police made a quick arrest in connection with an attempted bank robbery Thursday.

Franklin R. Johnson, 24, was arrested around 8 p.m., police said.

Johnson was walking down Carolina Avenue when he was spotted by patrol officers.

Johnson is facing several charges including attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

State Probation, Pardon and Parole officers assisted in the arrest of Johnson.

Sumter police said a man entered a First Citizens Bank near East Calhoun Street and North Washington Street and presented a note to the teller around 4 p.m.

Although a weapon was not seen, mannerisms suggested the man might have been armed, police said. He then fled without taking any money.

He was seen leaving in a royal blue colored Ford or Mercury driven by a light complexioned black man.
