Columbia resident and wrestling legend Mae Young has passed away at the age of 90, according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Young's career began in 1939 and spanned almost eight decades. She enjoyed a resurgence, along with friend and fellow wrestler The Fabulous Moolah, in the late 90s during the heyday of the WWE's Attitude Era.

Perhaps one of her most famous moments came in March 2000, when she took a powerbomb into a table from Bubba Ray Dudley during an episode of Monday Night Raw.

WWE President and CEO Vince McMahon released a statement shortly after Young's death.

"There will never be another Mae Young," said McMahon. "Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry. On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends."

Calling her a "queen of the canvas", WWE has posted a slideshow and video of her greatest moments on their website.
