LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says deputies found a man accused of stealing a vehicle during a break-in at an auto repair shop asleep in the stolen vehicle.

According to arrest warrants, 25-year-old Tommy Lee Stubbs is accused of breaking into Rock and Roll Auto on Charleston Highway in West Columbia at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The warrant says Stubbs stole an SUV, iPhone and laptop from the business.

A deputy responding to the burglary after it was reported Monday morning sent a radio report to other patrol officers to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle. A deputy in Red Bank noticed the vehicle parked at the intersection of Platt Springs and Kyzer Roads.  The deputy found Stubbs asleep in the back of the vehicle.

Stubbs told detectives he parked the SUV Sunday after he ran out of gas and decided to sleep inside the vehicle.

Stubbs also is accused of breaking into a used car lot on Pond Branch Road in Leesville overnight Saturday into Sunday and unsuccessfully hotwiring a vehicle parked there.

Stubbs is charged with two counts of burglary and one count of grand larceny.  He is awaiting a bond hearing at the Lexington County Detention Center.
