COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A Manning woman who worked as an income tax preparer and college instructor has been arrested on income tax charges.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue charged Vanessa Ragin-Boatright, 48, with six charges related to assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return.  Investigators say Ragin-Boatright knowingly prepared income tax returns for others that contained fraudulent figures and itemized deductions for the 2008 tax year. As a result of Ragin's returns, her clients received tax refunds for which they were not entitled.

If she is convicted, Ragin Boatright could get up to 30 years in prison and be required to pay $3,000 in fines.  She is currently being held at the Clarendon County Jail and Detention Center.
