Trash piles up in Tipton County

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Trash is building up along the roads in Tipton County. Residents paying to have their trash picked up are wondering why the company responsible is not getting it done.

Picking up trash is the last thing Michael Brown wanted to do on a cold day.

"Its frustrating. My mothers trash, we still have Christmas trash out here," said Brown.

Brown lives along Ray Bluff Road. He says trash has been piling up there for weeks.

Dogs have been dragging the trash from the front of his house into his yard.

The company responsible for picking up the trash is ABC Waste, who says it was shorthanded over the holidays. But that is not the company's only problem.

"The truck is broken down, they're on the way the next couple of days, they never show up," said Brown.

ABC Waste serves around 3,500 customers in north Shelby and south Tipton counties.

Customers in Atoka, Drummonds, and other areas say they are also affected by ABC's problems.

"I can't get anybody on the phone. I've left messages and they won't return my call," said resident Linda Hayes, who says trash is piling up inside her house because there is nowhere to put it outside.

"You don't want people to think this is a trashy road. The whole road is this way," she said.

Linda Hayes moved to the area more than 30 years ago to enjoy the view of the Mississippi River, but right now, her view is a little bit different.

"You pay for trash pickup. You don't want it sitting down there in front of your house and they haven't picked it up," she added.

ABC Waste promises they are correcting the problem and say all customers should be back on schedule this week.
