A man suspected of robbing a convenience store was arrested Saturday, Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson said.

Javier Serrano, 33, was taken into custody Saturday night after deputies say he robbed the Kangaroo gas station on Broad River Road around 6 a.m. Saturday, Wilson said.

Wilson said Serrano knew the woman who was working at the time and had a gun when he entered the store. He then changed his clothes and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Deputies used K-9 officers to track him to the wood line near the store, Wilson said.

Some money was recovered, along with the original clothes Serrano was wearing during robbery, Wilson said.

Serrano told deputies the rest of the money is buried in the woods, so "Perhaps a good Samaritan will turn it in."

Serrano was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on an armed robbery complaint.
