Stores expect post-Christmas rush

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Did you get a gift card for Christmas you can't wait to use? Or a present you can't wait to exchange? Those are among the reasons retailers are expecting a post-Christmas rush.

Walgreens was one of the few places shoppers could be found on Christmas Day. But after the holiday is when crowds could look similar to those seen after Thanksgiving.

"Everything is like 'You can get 50 inch TVs for $300 at HH Gregg or whatever," said Piper Dandy.

"Some people are still off for the holiday week, so it's their only chance to go out and do something like that," said Dave Vernon.

This year, retailers are offering after Christmas sales earlier than ever and predict sales will be better than ever amid a lackluster season overall.

Wal-Mart will open Thursday at 5 a.m. Macy's will open at 6 .m. Best Buy and Target stores will open at 7 a.m. Toys R Us and Wolfchase Galleria will open at 8 a.m.

For many people, returns and exchanges are some of the major reasons for going back to the stores.

With some retailers offering deals of up to 75 percent off, post-holiday shopping may be difficult for many to resist.
