COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Over 800 people, many with children come to St. Peter's Church every year for a hot Christmas dinner, warm clothes and even a few gifts from Santa Claus.

"Now we've got plenty this year again from Toys For Tots," said one volunteer. "They're going to be surprised. They're going to be shocked."

This event started 28 years ago and throughout the years, Christmas after Christmas volunteers have packed clothes, cut meat and baked cupcakes and prayed for good measure.

It's an effort always appreciated.

"I love how they treat people real nice in helping us out," said Elise Reese.

A feeling everyone here knows so well and makes today as well as many more days to come a little better.

Kids who visited St. Peter's today received toys from Santa as well as a $20 Target gift card, generously donated by an anonymous donor.
