(WMC-TV) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is chasing leads to track down the man who shot two police officers, killing one, after a bank robbery in Tupelo, Miss.

Investigators say the man walked into BanCorpSouth's Gloster Creek Village branch Monday afternoon. He shot the officers as he fled the scene.

The entire town is mourning the loss of Tupelo Police Officer Gale Stauffer, who was shot and killed pursuing the bank robbery suspect.

Flags are at half-staff throughout the town and at the police department, a wreath hangs with paying tribute to the fallen officer.

The mayor here says Tupelo Police Department posthumously promoted Stauffer from corporal to sergeant Tuesday.

The second officer injured, identified as Joseph Maher, 27, has been a Tupelo police officer for five years. According to officials, his condition is improving and doctors expect him to recover.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies all over the Mid-South continue to look for the shooter.

FBI agents questioned a person in Union County and reportedly searched a home and vehicle as they followed up on leads. Investigators confirm they released that person and the property.

The reward to catch the person responsible has increased by $50,000 after donations continued to come in from local banks and businesses. The total amount now stands upwards of $150,000.
