RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A man was killed Saturday night after being thrown from a motorcycle and then hit by another vehicle.

The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. near Broad River Road and Bickley Road in Richland County near Interstate 26.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as Robert Dale Soland, III, of Chapin. Watts said Soland died due to multiple trauma associated with the collision.

The victim was traveling east in a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Broad River Road when the driver veered right, lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle, said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The victim was not wearing a helmet, Jones said.

A second vehicle, possibly a blue GMC Terrain SUV (2010-2013), then struck the victim and left the scene, Jones said.

Jones said authorities are now looking for the vehicle, which will be missing the rear center plastic hitch area cover.

If you have any information about this collision or about the vehicle of interest, contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621 or 1-800768-1501. Or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
