AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - Investigators say an 8-year-old child playing with matches started a fire that killed two people in Aiken.
Authorities said the fire was reported early Saturday morning. The child escaped, but two bodies were found inside once the blaze was extinguished.
The Aiken County Coroner's Office identified the victims as 82-year-old Mary Childs and her 3-year-old granddaughter Arbrielle Douse. They say both died from burns and smoke inhalation.
Investigators say the child started the fire in a bedroom. They say no criminal charges will be filed.
Authorities did not say if the child who started the fire was related to the victims.
