Martha Childress discharged to home in Simpsonville

ATLANTA, GA (WIS) - The 18-year-old University of South Carolina student who was paralyzed following a shooting in Five Points back in October has been discharged from a rehabilitation center in Georgia.

Martha Childress, whose recovery from the shooting continued at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, left the center Wednesday for her parents' home in Simpsonville.

From there, Childress is expected to take a few weeks off from her rehab and enjoy the Christmas holiday before beginning to look for a new rehab facility in the Upstate.

Childress' family is also busy making their home wheelchair accessible. We've also learned she recently passed her driver's test.

In the end, Childress told us in an interview last week that she was looking forward to returning home and starting the process of just being an 18-year-old girl.

"Normalcy, that's what it's all about," she said.
