Richland Co. Council to select firm to aid in penny tax implementation

Posted: Updated:

The search process has begun for a firm needed to help oversee the implementaion of Richland County's penny tax revenue, according to the county's transportation director.

Richland County Council decided Tuesday night to interview five local firms on Jan. 6 to select who will manage the multiple elements of the project for the first five years.

Those elements include public input, financial modeling, scheduling, and construction of the various projects.

The firms will also be given the opportunity to make presenations to council during the Jan. 6 meeting.

Council is expected to decide on a firm on Jan. 7.

Richland County residents voted in 2012 to increase their sales tax by one penny in order to fund transportation projects around the county and to give the bus system a new stream of revenue.
