RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a Blythewood man was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Northeast Richland County.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 75-year-old Melvin James Bell of Blythewood died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on Longtown Road near Lee Road.

Troopers say Bell attempted to turn left onto Longtown Road from a parking lot when his vehicle was hit by an SUV on Longtown Road.  Bell was taken to the hospital where he died about a half-hour after the crash.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with what troopers described as non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
