(WMC-TV) - An employee at a Batesville hospital is accused of committing sexual battery against a patient.

Anthony Reece, 40, was arrested by investigators from the Attorney General's office and charged with sexual battery of a vulnerable person. Reece is out of jail on a $250,000 bond.

The worker is now out of a job and charged with a felony of sexual battery. The alleged victim is considered a vulnerable person under Mississippi law because she was under the care of the hospital.

A news release from the attorney general's office states that the victim was a patient at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville where Reece worked.

"We're a small community, and we're really proud of our Tri-Lakes hospital. It's on the rise," said Batesville resident Kay Nickle.

So when people found out that an employee was accused of having sex with a patient at the hospital's mental care facility they could not believe it.

"It's a crime. It's a shame that somebody would take advantage of someone like that, and I just really hate that it happened here," said Nickle.

A patient made the complaint over the summer and hospital officials say they reported it to the attorney general's office for an investigation.

Panola County deputies arrested Reece last week after he was indicted by a grand jury.

A spokesperson for the hospital said there have been no other allegations from patients against Reece.

He worked at the hospital for a couple of years. Also, he was a reserve police officer in Grenada several years ago, according to Grenada Police Chief Ben Williams.

If the allegations are true, Reece could go to prison for 30 years.

Reece is out of jail as of Tuesday on a $250,000 bond.
