RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A father and son have been charged with assault on a police officer after an arrest Sunday morning.

Sheriff Leon Lott says deputies were called to a home in the 600 block of Summer Crest Road at 10:35 Sunday morning to pick up a child who was reported as a runaway.

Lott says as 20-year-old Andrew Clay Miller opened the door, the deputy noticed a scent of marijuana coming from the house.  Lott says Miller tried to slam the door on the deputy and when asked about the odor and the reported runaway at the home, Miller tried to punch the deputy.

Several other deputies responded to the house to help take Miller into custody. His 60-year-old father, Andrew B. Miller, got involved and Lott says he assaulted the deputies.  Both Millers were arrested.

Deputies were treated for minor injuries at the scene by EMS.

The Millers are charged with assault on a police officer and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A third man, Reyerio Romero, 19, is charged with possession of marijuana. They were taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Sheriff Lott says the runaway juvenile was found at the home and released to his custodial parent.
