WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

A 55-year-old man is behind bars after police say he pointed a gun at a woman who honked her horn after he cut her off with his car on I-526.

The Charleston Police Department arrested Johnnie Ross Gardner on Wednesday and charged him with second-degree assault and battery.

Gardner's arrest stems from an incident last Friday morning when a police officer responded to the area of I-526 and Savannah Highway in reference to a man pointing a gun.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman, says she was traveling in her car on I-526 when she saw a Honda Accord, driven by Gardner, weaving in and out of traffic causing other drivers to honk their horns.

Police say as she was driving to the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard exit, the suspect cut her off. The victim said she then honked her horn.

Investigators say as the victim was driving away from the suspect, Gardner followed her and pointed a handgun while making a gesture as if he had fired the gun. The victim said she was very scared, and as she swerved away from Gardner's car, she hit another car.

When the victim and the driver of the car she hit pulled over, the victim reported that she saw Gardner at a nearby ATM machine.

According to authorities, when Gardner's vehicle drove by the victim, she saw Gardner holding up a gun which was pointed towards the sky. Police say Gardner stared at the victim as he drove by while nodding his head and holding the gun.
