Town cancels Christmas parade

Posted: Updated:

The 2013 Prosperity Christmas Parade will not take place this year, town officials announced Sunday.

"Due to safety concerns and circumstances outside of our control, the 2013 Christmas Parade Rain Date will be canceled," the Town of Prosperity posted on their Facebook page. "The Parade Committee and The Town Government exhausted all options and resources and this decision was mutual and unanimous."

Parade entry refunds will be sent out next week, the town posted.

In a statement to WIS, a spokesperson for the town explained the decision.

"The parade rain date was canceled out of safety concerns. These include law enforcement availability, man power availability, another event entering town during the same time creating potential bottle neck on the detour route, construction along the parade line up, and very soft shoulders along line up route. We looked at rerouting, we looked at reversal of line ups, and with the construction and the limited law enforcement availability, and we had no choice but to cancel until 2014. We hope everyone understands as we continue to look at ways to improve the parade for next year and we are open for anyone to volunteer to assist with the 2014 Prosperity Christmas Parade."
