Dutch Fork High School imposed its will upon Sumter High School Saturday night and won the state AAAA championship title by a score of 54-14.

The Silver Foxes' defense managed to hold the Sumter offense to just 16 yards, and kept QB James Barnes scrambling all night.

At the end of the night, Barnes was 3-for-8 for -14 yards.

In the first quarter, Dutch Fork stormed out to a 14-0 lead on the heels of a 15 yard touchdown pass from QB Derek Olenchuk, but Olenchuk made one bad pass into the arms of Sumter's Harris Demarcus, who returned the interception 76 yards for six points.

Dutch Fork answered with a 3 minute drive that ended with a field goal from kicker Tyler Bass.

However, Sumter responded with an 82-yard kickoff return from Xzavion Burson to bring the Gamecocks back into the game.

The Silver Foxes replied back to Sumter's haymaker with another crisp drive to put 10 points between them.

From then on, it was all Dutch Fork. However, for the next three drives, the Silver Foxes were unable to come up with any touchdows, but Bass was a perfect three for three on field goals and put Dutch Fork up 33-14 heading into the second half.

Dutch Fork would have two more touchdown drives in the third quarter and one more in the fourth.

The Silver Foxes offense ran over the Sumter defense to the tune of 565 total yards. Dutch Fork running back Matt Colburn had 210 yards on his own and four touchdowns.

Dutch Fork's victory tonight gives the Midlands its first AAAA champion since 1993.
