Winter Storm leaves slick roads, power outages

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A fine mist of freezing rain fell early Sunday morning leaving already slick roads even more dangerous. The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department reported at 8:30am Sunday nearly every road had some form of ice on it. 

Entergy Arkansas reported just over 300 without power early Sunday morning. Entergy Spokesperson David Burnette said additional crews were in the area to put power back on. Burnette said they should get power restored to residents in eastern Poinsett and southern Mississippi Counties Sunday. 

Approximately one half inch of freezing rain covered trees, power lines, and cars in eastern Arkansas where most of the power outages occurred.  

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department had road crews out spreading sand and pushing as much of the ice off the roadway. The state is not as equipped to handle the winter weather as states to the north where weather is more common. 

Prepare a survival kit now if you must travel with extra blankets, battery jumper cables, and a bag of sand or cat litter for traction if needed.

    William Huff terrorized Sierra Vista during the spring and summer of 1967. Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.

    Police are looking for a woman who pointed a gun at a barber; all because her son's haircut was taking too long. According to the Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County, the woman's son was getting his haircut on April 14 at Allstate Barber College on Lorain Avenue.
