The following perspective is an expression of opinion by the Editorial Board at WIS, and presented by General Manager Donita Todd:
On December 3, Columbia residents will vote on a proposal to change the city governance system from a city manager/council form of government to a strong mayor system.
There have been countless public forums and small group meetings in the past several months designed to explain these various forms of city government, how they are organized and how they operate. Advocates for both sides of the issue have stepped up the rhetoric in recent days to raise awareness of what's at stake in this special election, the advantages and disadvantages of a strong mayor form of government, and why it will or will not serve the interests of Columbia moving forward.
We advocated for putting this choice to the voters in Columbia, and now you have that opportunity. Get informed and get to the polls on December 3 to vote for the form of city government you think best serves Columbia.
That's my Perspective.
