WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Soldiers from Fort Jackson spent the night at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport Wednesday to catch their early morning flights to be with their family on Thanksgiving.

"Just to be home is going to be weird, because I don't know home," said Jay Dee Rampersad. "Fort Jackson has become a second home. This is where we bled, we sweat, we cried with these others, fellow soldiers, so this is what we gotta do, this is what we gotta take care of, but it's good to serve our nation."

Shad Heib said he couldn't get a flight until Thursday but he's hoping that he will be home just in time for dinner.

"Couldn't get a flight until tomorrow morning for Thanksgiving, but hopefully I get home just in time for dinner and eat real food for once," Hieb said.

The soldiers said they passed the time by sharing stories, playing cars and rest up for the flight out in the morning.
