RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

About 200 Ridge View High School students are spending Thanksgiving away from their families.

The Ridge View High School Blazer band is marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade Thursday. They are performing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

"I'm really excited," said senior Drum Major Carson Waldrop.  He said this trip will be one of his favorite band memories.

"You see it on TV and you don't ever think it could be you, but all of a sudden we're doing it and its just really neat that we get to do it."

"We've been waiting for this trip for like, a very long time and it just excites us all to be able to go out of state and be able to perform for millions of people," said junior Drum Major Kjilo Gray.

The band left school at midnight Wednesday morning and headed north through a storm that dumped snow in parts of the Appalachians and northeast. The students will have to spend Thanksgiving away from home.

"It's going to be really different not being able to spend time with my family on Thanksgiving," said Waldrop.

After the parade, the band heads to New York City.  Their itinerary includes a dinner cruise, tour of Manhattan, Broadway, Little Italy and a visit to the National September 11 Memorial.

"I'm looking forward to seeing New York because that's sort of everyone's dream," said Waldrop. "And I get to do it before I even graduate from high school.  That's pretty neat."

WIS was at Ridge View High School for their last rehearsal before departing for Philadelphia.  Raw video from their rehearsal is attached to this story.
