GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Midway Fire Rescue responded to assist Georgetown County fire crews that are responding to an incident at the 3V Chemical Corp.

Chief Doug Eggiman says early reports from the scene on Woodstock Street indicated that there was an explosion and one person may be trapped in an elevator shaft.

But Georgetown County's Director of Emergency Services Sam Hodge says there was no explosion. He confirmed to sister station in Charleston that four 55-gallon drums fell over at the chemical plant, and spilled the chemical contents. There was no contamination outside of the plant, and emergency management officials have contained the spill inside.

One person was transported to the hospital, but the extent of injuries is unknown. Midway Fire sent a Technical Rescue and Hazmat team. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
