LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A period of wintry weather is expected late this afternoon and into the evening for parts of the WAVE 3 News viewing area. This weather event is on the backside of a developing winter storm along the east coast.
We expect a band of rain and sleet through mid-afternoon which will change to snow for the late afternoon and evening; however this band will mainly affect areas east of Interstate 65.
Since temperatures will not drop to or below freezing until after sunset, accumulations will be limited. Expecting a dusting a best for areas seeing precipitation with perhaps an inch of snow from Frankfort south to Columbia. With temperatures crashing into the mid-20s tonight, slick spots will remain possible overnight. Therefore, a Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for areas east of I-65 through 7 a.m. Wednesday. In addition, expect cold wind chills in the single digits for some Wednesday morning with additional snow showers.
