Colonial Heights detectives are now investigating two diamond store robberies, including an incident where a man tried on a necklace valued at more than $10,000 and then ran from the scene.

A man took the necklace from New York Jewelers, a store within the Southpark Mall. Police received word of the incident between 5:00 and 5:15 p.m. Monday.

The theft is considered grand larceny, and one man also ran away with the suspect.

The second incident happened at Helzberg Diamonds on Southpark Boulevard. According to police, one suspect asked to have four pairs of earrings placed on a display cushion. The man snatched the jewelry and ran outside to a getaway car.

Police are now reviewing security footage of the incidents, just days before thousands are expected to pack the area for Black Friday.

The suspects were first seen inside the Southpark Mall at Italian Jewelry before the heists. Police are now looking for three African American males, and suspect the robberies could be connected to an incident near the Chesterfield Towne Center.

Two men robbed a Jared Jewelry store on Midlothian Turnpike an hour after the Colonial Heights incidents. The M.O. is the same, asking to see jewelry from behind the counter, then grabbing the valuables.
