RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says the body of a missing 84-year-old Richland County man was found late Tuesday night.

Sheriff's Department spokesperson Curtis Wilson said Jerry Glenn Helms was found dead Tuesday afternoon on Governor Richardson Road in Clarendon County. He was found about 300 yards from his vehicle in a cornfield.

No foul play is expected in Helms' death.

Helms had been missing since Saturday. Richland County Sheriff's deputies say Helms drove away from his Todd Branch Drive home Saturday morning to run errands and make a possible trip to Sears.

A worker at Columbia Place Mall reported seeing Helms around 11 a.m. He had not been seen since.

Family members say Helms had recently spoken about wanting to go to the Fort Bragg or Gastonia, North Carolina areas to visit with friends following the death of his wife, who passed away on Nov. 14. They had been married 58 years.

Helms was suffering from dementia, Alzheimer's, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

An autopsy was planned for late Wednesday morning.
