Woman trying to save dogs from fire hospitalized

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A woman trying to save three dogs from an apartment fire in Northeast Richland County was hospitalized Friday afternoon.

According to a Columbia Fire Department spokesperson, the incident took place at the Paddock Club Apartments on Smallwood Road.

The unidentified woman was transported to an area hospital for symptoms of smoke inhalation.

The fire in the apartment below her started in the bedroom, according to the tenant.

Damages to the building have been estimated at $40,000 to $50,000.

The fire marshals office is investigating the cause.
