AG's office works to take down Facebook page with half-naked women

Posted: Updated:

A FOX Carolina investigation received attention of South Carolina's Attorney General.

The office of Attorney General Alan Wilson has worked with Facebook to get a page featuring photos of young women in various stages of undress, removed from the site.

FOX Carolina is not revealing the name of the site or the identities of the women who said their photos were posted without their consent. Several of them said they were told more of their personal photos would be posted if they did not provide even more pictures to the person running the site.

The site is listed under what appears to be a fake name. Photos of a man who said he is not associated with the page were listed as profile pictures. He also asked FOX Carolina for help in getting the page taken down.

Now, Mark Powell, a spokesman for Wilson's office, said senior staff members were given the task of getting the site removed. They contacted Facebook and the page was replaced with a message that now reads, "Sorry this page isn't available."

FOX Carolina is awaiting word from the Attorney General's office for information regarding any charges or identifying the person who created the site.

We're told the Attorney General's office will work with Facebook to prevent the person from creating any other sites like that one. Powell thanked Fox Carolina for shining the spotlight on the site and uncovering an issue that needed to be resolved.
