Police charge man for car burglaries at Gold's Gym

Posted: Updated:

Irmo police charged an Elgin man in connection with several car break-ins at a local gym.

Police say William Newcomb, 47, would take car keys from unsecured lockers at Gold's Gym and go to the parking lot and use the keys to enter cars and steal personal property.

"While we are working hard to identify and arrest people responsible for breaking into cars in local parking lots, you can help us stop these crimes before they happen," Irmo police stated on their Facebook page.

Irmo police want to remind residents if you're going to the gym, or shopping, do not leave things like purses and wallets where they are easily seen for the outside.

Take your personal belongings with you and secure them in a locker while in the gym.

Anyone who sees suspicious behavior while out shopping or going to the gym is asked to contact local police.
