ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

As the first freeze of the season approaches, its important to make sure you keep your pets protected from the cold.

At Bush Animal Clinic, veterinarians advise people to bring their pets inside as the temperatures drop, but if you can't, make sure to provide adequate shelter from the wind, and make sure they have fresh water to drink.

"Outside dogs that have slowly gotten used to this weather will probably be okay with those temperatures but owners should provide good quality water I don't imagine its gonna freeze in their bowls but they should check it pour out any frozen and add fresh and provide shelter from the wind," says Dr. Steve Whatley, with Bush Animal Clinic.

He says its also nice to put some blankets inside their shelter. Animals can get sick from cold, especially if they already have some symptoms developing.
