DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies are looking for a shooting suspect.

Investigators said the shooting happened after 12:30 p.m. in a field off County Road 313 in the Dawson community.

Officials said 41-year-old Travis Wayne Townsend walked up to Bobby Harper's car with a rifle and shot through the vehicle, striking the victim in the neck. It is believed that the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute over a woman.

"He had supposedly been going with his girlfriend. They had an altercation; Travis pulled out some kind of rifle and shot through his vehicle," said Sheriff Jimmy Harris.

Harper was flown to Huntsville Hospital and underwent surgery. He is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

"If someone runs up on him, they can call us. I really don't feel like he's not much of a threat to anybody unless they try to corner him. He's usually going to be the one running from you when you're trying to find him," said Harris.

If anyone knows Townsend's whereabouts, you are asked to contact the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department at 256-845-3801.
