COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A teenager accused of shooting a 14-year-old girl in Columbia earlier this month has been identified and will face charges as an adult.

Columbia Police say the 14-year-old was shot in the chest with a gang member's gun November 3rd at Latimer Manor. The girl remains in the hospital.

Ten days after the incident, investigators upgraded the charges against 16-year-old Raekwon C. Ford to adult court and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police determined that the shooting was intentional and upgraded the charges after discussing the case with the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office. Investigators say Ford brandished the weapon recklessly and pointed it at the victim before the shooting.

Just after the shooting, Ford was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a pistol. Investigators say the Ford is a "validated" gang member.

The teen victim was found by police in the parking lot of Latimer Manor Apartments on Lorick Circle around 9 p.m. November 3rd.

Officers responded to the area after somebody called 911 to report gunfire.

Authorities say the victim may be paralyzed.

Police said the day after the shooting that it was not intentional.
