LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A former Pelion police officer was charged with criminal domestic violence after an altercation with a woman in October.

John Elliott Elkin, 32, was charged Thursday in Lexington County court after he grabbed the woman's cell phone and prohibited her from using it, according to an arrest warrant.

The incident happened Oct. 12 in Gaston while Elkin was still employed as a police officer with the Pelion Police Department, the warrant states.

"Elkin told the victim he would have the police come by the house for welfare checks on their child, have them waiting at the road for her and wanted more child custody," the warrant states.

Authorities said Elkin also followed the victim through a wooded area as the woman headed to a relative's house to call 911.

Calls to the Pelion Police Department for comment have yet to be returned.

Elkin was released on bond late Friday, jail records show.
