COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The City of Columbia announced they will be bringing back its seasonal ice rink just in time for the holidays this year.
The rink is slated to open on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. and will remain open until Jan. 20, 2014.
The 50' X 63' seasonal ice skating rink will adorn Boyd Plaza in front of the Columbia Museum of Art.
The city says they will partner with The Plex and Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated to host a number of special events at the rink.
The rink will be open seven days a week with the following operating hours:
Monday –Thursday, 4 - 9:00 p.m.
Friday, 4 -10:00 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Skating fees will remain the same as last year: $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under as well as for seniors (55+) and active duty military. Fees include skate rentals.
Last year, the rink was the subject of controversy as many saw it as a waste of taxpayer funds. The city said it spent around $210,000 on the rink and made just over $100,000 in revenue.
